  16. <p>     Climate and clothing: Wear summer clothes from May to
  17. mid-October and spring and fall attire from mid-October through
  18. April. Always dress conservatively in public.
  19. </p>
  20. <p>     Customs: A visa is required for entry. US citizens may
  21. purchase transit visas with 72-hour validity at Bahrain's
  22. international airport. A 7-day visa is also available.
  23. </p>
  24. <p>     Health: No immunizations are required for entry, but malaria
  25. suppressants are recommended. Health requirements change; check
  26. latest information. Tapwater is potable but highly saline in
  27. most areas; persons with sodium restrictions should drink
  28. bottled water. No unusual precautions regarding food and drink
  29. are necessary. Modern health services are provided in several
  30. hospitals and health centers.

  32. <p>     Telecommunications: Telephone connections are excellent
  33. because international calls enter the satellite communications
  34. system from from Bahrain. Bahrain is 8 hours ahead of eastern
  35. standard time. Cable and telex connections to leading hotels
  36. and businesses are good. Bahraini television features Arabic-
  37. and English-language programs.

  39. <p>     Transportation: Gulf Air serves India, Saudi Arabia, other
  40. gulf states, and several European cities. Many other major
  41. airlines serve Bahrain's modern international airport. Taxis
  42. and rental cars are available in Manama.
  43. </p>
  44. <p>     National holidays: Businesses and shops may closed on the
  45. following holidays. Actual dates depend on lunar calendar.
